Our commitment

We are committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, regardless of ability, device or assistive technology. Accessibility is treated as part of building and maintaining the site, not as a one-off audit.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for making web content more accessible. This site is intended to conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. It has not yet been assessed by an independent third party, so we describe it as partially conformant: some content may not yet fully meet the standard, and we are still reviewing.

What we have done

• Text is checked for a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1, and 3:1 for large text and interface components.
• The whole page can be operated by keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator on every interactive element.
• A skip link lets keyboard and screen-reader users jump straight to the main content.
• Buttons and navigation controls are at least 48 by 48 pixels; links inside a line of text follow the inline exception in the guidelines.
• Headings follow a logical order, with a single level-one heading per page.
• Meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
• Form fields have visible labels, required fields are marked in text rather than by colour or placeholder alone, and errors are announced with a clear description of the problem.
• The frequently asked questions use a keyboard-accessible accordion with correct expanded and collapsed states.
• Content reflows without horizontal scrolling down to a 320-pixel viewport width.
• There is no autoplaying audio or video, and motion is reduced automatically when the operating system requests it.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following, and are working on them:

• The site loads a typeface from Google Fonts. If that request is blocked, text falls back to a system font, which can change line lengths slightly.
• Some elements of the site have not yet been tested with every combination of browser and screen reader. If you meet a barrier we have not listed, we would like to hear about it.

Technical information

Accessibility on this site relies on HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and on WAI-ARIA attributes where a native element could not express the same state. The site has been evaluated by internal review during development rather than by external audit.
